CI/CD and Deployment Strategies
Continuous Integration & Deployment in Node.js Ecosystems
Deploying resilient Node.js applications requires rigorous CI/CD pipelines to enforce code quality, run comprehensive test suites, and automate rollout strategies.
Continuous Integration (CI)
A standard CI pipeline acts as a gatekeeper. When code is pushed to version control, automated runners immediately execute static analysis (ESLint), type checking (TypeScript), and unit testing frameworks (Jest, Mocha). The pipeline blocks the merge if any process exits with a non-zero status code.
Deployment Strategies
- Rolling Updates: Incrementally replacing instances with the new version to ensure zero downtime.
- Blue/Green Deployments: Maintaining two identical production environments. Traffic is switched over via the load balancer only after the 'Green' environment passes integration tests.
- Canary Releases: Routing a small percentage (e.g., 5%) of live traffic to a new version to validate stability before wide release.
